Trust. Faith. Appreciation. All things that you are allowed to have, and live with, for free. Is it always easy to believe in what you cannot see? Often not. Maybe simple, but not easy.

Here, I challenge you to keep it simple.

Drink water. Enjoy the essence of the things that cannot be put into words. Be present.

Away we go..

Roots - Communication

I share an article today in light of hoping to learn something from what I teach, and, practice what I preach. This article shares the Wilson Learning Social Styles model of the 4 categories we as humans fall into. There are other models like the Myers Briggs, D.I.S.C, Ennegream, and other personality tests that tell us the different ways we as humans “exist”, if you will.

This article shares it relative to the workplace, and it can be taken across your relationships in life if you choose so. Without realizing it, many of us communicate the same way to everyone. Often we wonder why someone is not understanding us, when in reality, we have not taken the time to understand them.

We may speak the same language without indeed speaking the language. The key to our success within communication is our ability to invest in versatility, or, the willingness to adapt. So, a couple of pointers.

1- Identify the social style of the person you are speaking with.

2- Reflect on the social style and expectations this person has of you (and vice versa).

3- Modify your behaviors to maximize the effectiveness of your communication.

This may sound elementary and almost silly.. but consider this:

In this model - all humans are simplified and categorized into 4 buckets (imagine if it was more). This means - you think and communicate in the same style as 1 in 4 people you meet.

For fluid and congruent conversation, it takes a certain level of curiosity for us to communicate effectively with other people. We cannot assume that others understand us, and vice versa. This assumption is where spoken and unspoken conflict lives. And yes, for those of you who do your best to meet people halfway (without compromising yourself.. that’s another conversation all together) only encourage others to meet you in the middle.

The article is clean and to the point, give it a read:

KLOUTY SPOTLIGHT

Fearless Flyer

Some of you may have already known this, but I did NOT.. This past Monday while checking out at the Trader Joe’s line.. I look down at the end of the register to see a newspaper. Little did I know this was their monthly Newsletter of all of their new items along with magical descriptions of the food.

As always - I am not here to convince you of anything other than to lift your head up and look around. It’s everywhere. Here is an excerpt of a snack I had ironically already had in my cart:

“Under most circumstances, a crispy, crunchy, cocoa crème-filled wafer cookie would be reason enough to get excited. When you add peanut butter to the mix, well, now that’s where things get positively thrilling—and thrillingly, that’s the precise pairing that powers Trader Joe’s PB & C Snack Duo. Made for us by the same supplier behind our celebrated PB & J Snack Duo, TJ’s PB & C Snack Duo exchanges one iconic flavor combination for another, for an equally delicious end result. Each box comes with six individual snack-packs; each snack-pack contains eight baton-shaped, cocoa crème-filled wafer cookies and a sidecar of soft, slightly salted peanut butter dip.”

P.S. This snack is delicious.
